When the Romans invaded Britain they brought a large, long wool sheep breed with them. This breed cross bred with native sheep and branched off into many different breeds often named for the region they developed in. These breeds include the Cotswold, Lincoln, Leicester, Devon Longwools and the Teeswater. The Teeswater is found in Northern England, especially Teesdale, County Durham.
